- In 2025, VicPD accounted for 23% of the city’s operating spending
- Police operating spending increased by $8.7 million in 2025, reaching a total of $83.2 million. By comparison, libraries, parks, arts and culture, and funding for housing received an increase of $700,000 for a budget of only $45.9 million
- VicPD gets $6 million more for its operations budget than the city spends on all of these services combined:
- Parks ($31.2M)
- Victoria Fire Department ($23.8M)
- Libraries ($6.3M)
- Non-profit grants ($5.6M and falling)
- Projects to meet housing targets ($6.3M)
- Arts, culture and events ($3.6M)
- Affordable housing grants ($0.3M)
- The average VicPD officer made $156,293 in 2024. The average monthly rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in Victoria in August 2025 was $2,040. Every officer VicPD hires is six people who could have been housed for a year. VicPD had at least 251 officers on payroll in 2024.
