Candidates running for mayor and council in the City of Victoria’s 2026 Local Government Election, along with candidates running for the Greater Victoria School Districts 2026 School Trustee Election have been officially announced.
Candidate Questions
In preparation for the elections, we wanted to gather information about candidate positions on the police budget and the SPLO program so that we could share them with you all, without candidate endorsement. We have reached out to all candidates with the following questions.
To Mayoral and City Council Candidates:
- When the Victoria Police Department request another increase in their budget next year, how will you respond?
- Will you advocate for reducing the existing police budget
To School Board Candidates:
- Do you support an SPLO program in SD61 schools? If yes, please elaborate. If not, what measures would you take to end the program?
Responses to these questions will be shared with you, our subscribers, in early October before the General Voting Day so you know where candidates stand on these important issues.
Livable CRD
To support greater voter transparency, we’ve partnered with Livable CRD, a non-partisan coalition of Capital Region community groups making local elections easier to navigate.
Livable CRD publishes a candidate scorecard and questionnaire, graded with a clear, published methodology, covering transit, housing, arts, climate, walking, cycling, healthcare, and good governance. It doesn’t endorse anyone: it lays out where candidates stand so you can compare them side by side before you vote.

Voting Day
General Voting Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All municipalities and electoral areas in B.C. will be holding local government elections on the same day.
