In a Times Colonist article about VicPD shooting a man in downtown Victoria, there is a paragraph that reads:
“A drone deployed by police above the scene of the incident was attacked by several seagulls before the launch was called off.”
In a similar way that Orca whales have become a symbol for some mobilizing around wealth disparity, with slogans of “sink the rich”, we would like to think of these seagulls as a symbol of our efforts to peck away at the VicPD budget. Disrupting police surveillance attempts makes the seagulls of southern Vancouver Island our allies.
If you listen carefully, you too can hear their squawking calls to “Defund the Police”!
